Introduced annual, biennial or short-lived perennial forb to 1.8m tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, often stem-clasping. Leaves 1-15cm long, 3-10mm wide, flat to linear, hairless, with smooth edges, and pointed tips. Flower heads cylindrical, with about 25 white, pink, blue, or pale mauve 'petals'. Flowers single at the ends of the stems.
